HC Deb 21 November 1955 vol 546 cc74-5W
69. Sir I Fraser

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power the present position of stocks of coal and coke for domestic and industrial users; and what are the prospects for the winter.

Mr. Joynson-Hicks

At 29th October last, the larger industrial firms had 4,377,000 tons of coal and 562,000 tons of hard coke in stock. Merchants held 1,776,000 tons of house coal, anthracite, and boiler fuel and 203,000 tons of coke. If the recent improvement in coal output is maintained and industrialists respond to the Government's call for greater fuel efficiency, we should be able to get through even a cold winter without serious difficulty.
