§ 82. Mr. Bowlesasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the rates of compensation, and their basis, paid to men who were killed while serving in the Canal Zone.
§ Lord John HopeThe payments to the dependants of men who were killed while serving in the Canal Zone after October, 1951, are £400 for an officer and £250 for an other rank. These payments are made on anex gratia basis and are not intended as compensation for loss of life. The decision to make them was taken in view of the extinction by the Anglo-Egyptian Agreement of the private right to claim against the Egyptian Government.
