HC Deb 09 November 1955 vol 545 cc190-1W
76. Mr. Beswick

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he is aware of the housing problem which still faces workers at London Airport; and what special steps he has taken, in consultation with the Minister of Housing and Local Government, since October, 1951, to meet this problem.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I am aware that some of the workers at London Airport are faced with housing problems. Whilst it is not my direct responsibility, my Department has collaborated fully with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, the local authorities and the British Airways Staff Housing Society in preparing schemes for the provision of houses. Six hundred houses have already been specially provided under these schemes since October, 1951, and a further 750 will be available by the end of next year. I may add that my right hon. Friend the Minister of Housing and Local Government is arranging for an early meeting of the responsible authorities to review the position and consider what further action is necessary.
