§ 61. Mr. Donnellyasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will make a statement regarding the Government's policy towards the specific position of the agricultural industry in relation to general credit restrictions and bank advances.
Mr. AmoryThe Government's general credit policy is in the interests of the nation as a whole, including the agricultural industry. The task of dealing with individual cases in all areas must be left to the banks, who alone are familiar with the circumstances of each. But as my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer indicated on 1st November, we are satisfied that we can rely on them to give due weight to the importance of agriculture.
