asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury the estimated annual loss of revenue from all reductions in Purchase Tax since 1952.

The following are the more important reductions which have affected the Purchase Tax revenue since 1952:

These estimates are those prepared at the time, taking account of the then current level of consumption of the goods concerned and of such increases in consumption as could reasonably be foreseen.
