HC Deb 04 May 1955 vol 540 cc137-8W
Mr. Hamilton

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how many people in Scotland applied for reimbursement of the National Health Service charge of one shilling per prescription in each year since 1952; and what was the total amount repaid in each year.

Mr. Marples

The records do not show how many individuals have claimed such refunds. The approximate numbers and total amounts of the charges refunded in Scotland by the Ministry and by the National Assistance Board since the charges came into operation on 1st June, 1952, are as follows:

Number of charges refunded Total amount refunded
1952 (June to December) 333,000 £16,650
1953 676,700 £33,835
1954 727,100 £36,355
