§ Mr. J. Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why the Onitsha Town Council has been dissolved; which councillors have resigned; and whether any action has been taken against those councillors who are accused of bribery and corruption.
§ Mr. Hopkinson, pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 30th March, 1955; Vol. 539, c. 33], supplied the following information: I am informed that 25 councillors of the Onitsha Town Council have 100W resigned because of allegations of corruption. There has been an inquiry and the report (which I understand will be published) has been under consideration by the Regional Executive Council. The police are investigating certain allegations contained in the report.
