§ 79. Mr. Awberyasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware of the strike which is in process at Tronoh Mines, Perak, Malaya; and whether he will request his Labour Department in the Federation to take steps to bring the two parties together, with a view to arriving at a mutually satisfactory settlement or to hold an inquiry into the cause of the dispute.
§ Mr. HopkinsonYes. Before this strike began the Labour Department of the Federation took active steps with the Mining Employee's Union and Employers'Association, to seek a settlement. It is ready now to bring the parties together, but they have been unwilling to compromise. The causes of the dispute are clear and no need is seen for an inquiry.
