§ 84. Mr. Fenner Brockwayasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies to make a statement regarding the conditions under which Kikuyu were screened at Nanyuki on 6th February, 1955.
§ Mr. HopkinsonThere were indications that a Mau Mau supply base was being organised in Nanyuki. 1,100 persons were arrested on 6th February for screening, and were provided with tent accommodation and regular meals from the start. A medical officer was present throughout.
194WAll were screened thoroughly on 7th and 8th and between 300 and 400 were released immediately. 93 were subsequently released, 32 have been tried and convicted, 170 are appearing before the courts, and the remainder are being further screened.
