HC Deb 21 March 1955 vol 538 cc159-60W
Mr. Elwyn Jones

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether, in view of increasing unemployment among those engaged in ship repairing in the Port of London, he will introduce legislation to discourage or prohibit British shipowners from having their ships repaired in foreign ports, save for emergency repairs.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

No. Any such legislation would be quite contrary to the interests of both our ship-repairing and shipping industries.
