HC Deb 09 March 1955 vol 538 c37W
3. Mr. Tilney

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many effective aircraft are owned or in use by the West African Airways Corporation; and what programme of replacement and addition to these has been decided upon, and for what types of aircraft.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

On 25th February the West African Airways Corporation had in operation nine aircraft, five of which were de Havilland Doves and four Bristol 170s. On the advice of the manufacturers and of the Air Registration Board all these aircraft have been temporarily withdrawn from service for modifications which are expected to take approximately one week for each aircraft. Meanwhile, the Corporation have obtained one Dakota aircraft on charter for two months and are hoping to acquire up to five de Havilland Herons in the near future.
