§ 54. Mr. Awberyasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that dissatisfaction is felt by the civilian 269W employees at the naval base, Singapore, owing to the fact that their trade unions are not properly recognised and that this is breaking down the proper relationship which should exist between employers and employees; and if he will invite experienced trade unionists from this country to hold an inquiry into the position of the civilian employees of the three Government Departments in Singapore in order to prevent any future strikes.
§ Mr. HopkinsonNo dissatisfaction on this score has been reported to my right hon. Friend. Joint consultative machinery is operated by all three Service Departments. There is an experienced trade union adviser in the Singapore Labour Department, and my right hon. Friend sees no reason to intervene in the manner suggested.
