asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation how many successful prosecutions there were in 1954 under Section 19 of the Road Traffic Act, 1930; and how many there were in 1952.

506 and 1,040 respectively. In both cases the figures are for the year ended 30th September. In addition there were in these two years 2,825 and 4,545 convictions for offences against the provisions of the Road and Rail Traffic Act, 1933, relating to hours of work and the keeping of drivers' records.
