§ 93. Sir D. Robertsonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland to what extent forestry operations on the Westminster Estates in north-west Sutherland are being curtailed; and what steps are being taken to find other employment for men whose services will be no longer required at Loch More.
§ Mr. J. StuartThe Westminster Estates are privately owned. I understand, however, that the planting programme for the current season has been cut by about one quarter to permit the estate to give more attention to the care of existing plantations. I have not been informed to what extent this may involve a reduction in the number of workers, but there are several projects in the area which should help in providing alternative employment if that is needed.
