§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterThe latest figures are for licences current during the quarter ending 30th September, 1954. These are given below.
the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research for injecting phosphates into cattle before slaughter with a view to rendering the meat more tender; and whether he is satisfied that no suffering is caused to the animal as a result of the injection or in between the period of injection and the slaughter.
Mr. AmoryThe experiments by the Food Investigation Organisation of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research are still in progress. The question of recommending the adoption of the method by industry has therefore not yet arisen.
