§ Major Lloyd-GeorgeThe breakwater was completed in 1864. It is exposed to the full force of Atlantic gales and continuous maintenance and repair work is necessary. During the four years from 1st April, 1950, to 31st March, 1954, the average cost of this work was £28,820 a year. The provisional figure for the year ended 31st March, 1955, is £24,597.
