§ 27. Mr. J. Hyndasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what steps have been taken to provide more suitable water supplies, drainage and fire precautions in the slum settlements around Lusaka, pending the rehousing of the inhabitants.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe Government of Northern Rhodesia are doing what they can to alleviate conditions in these slum settlements. It must be remembered however that these settlements were erected illegally, that they are scattered over a wide area and that the building resources of the local authorities must be concentrated on rehousing. The main effort of the Government must therefore be directed towards the elimination of the slums by the provision of alternative accommodation.
