Mr. Hurdasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many local authorities are now encouraging the full use of housing improvement grants at the 50 per cent. rate; how many are not yet doing so; and if he will again draw the attention of these authorities to the satisfactory and economical results that are being obtained in many areas.
§ Mr. SandysOver 1,130 local authorities in England and Wales have given improvement grants. About 340 have so far not done so. Figures are not available for the proportion of grants given at the maximum rate of 50 per cent. In view of the satisfactory progress made, I do not think that any further reminder is necessary.
