§ 71. Mr. McKayasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is aware of the increases in rents that are being granted by tribunals under the 1954 Housing Act in cases where reasonable 158W rents have been decided; and if he will introduce amending legislation to set a lower limit to the possible increase than that imposed by the 1954 Act.
§ Mr. SandysI assume the hon. Member is referring to cases dealt with by tribunals under Section 1 of the Landlord and Tenant (Rent Control) Act, 1949, as amended by Section 36 of the Housing Repairs and Rents Act, 1954. Increases of rent have been allowed in about 14 per cent. of the cases dealt with up to 31st March. The Act does not impose any limit.
