HC Deb 04 July 1955 vol 543 cc70-1W
The Rev. Llywelyn Williams

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if the results of the Prisoners Prerelease Habilitation Scheme at Bristol are satisfactory; and what further schemes of the same character he has in mind.

Major Lloyd-George

The response of the preventive detention prisoners who have been selected for the pre-release scheme at the Bristol hostel has been strikingly satisfactory, though it is too soon to try to assess long-term results. The Prison Commissioners are proposing to extend the scheme to other recidivist prisoners, and Parliament will shortly be asked to approve the necessary amendment of the Prison Rules.
