asked the Minister of Health how many beds were available for use in mental hospitals and mental-deficiency hospitals in England and Wales at December, 1951; and at the latest available date.

119,502 beds in mental hospitals and 47,617 in mental deficiency hospitals were available for use on 31st December, 1951. The comparable figures on 31st December, 1954, were 121,555 and 50,726.
