Mr. Awberyasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is aware of the heavy financial burden that will fall upon many small local authorities who have to pay the costs of clearing the snow during this abnormal winter; and if he will arrange for grants to be made to meet this expenditure.
§ Mr. SandysI recognise that snow clearance places an additional burden on the services of local authorities. Expenditure in respect of classified roads is eligible for grant. I have no power to pay grants towards the cost incurred in respect of other roads.
