HC Deb 21 February 1955 vol 537 c112W
Mr. H. Nicholls

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power from what countries, other than the sterling area and Western Europe, there are no quantitative limitations on the import of lubricating oil.

Mr. Joynson-Hicks

As there are many such countries I am sending my hon. Friend a Summary of Import Licensing Regulations which contain the information asked for.

Mr. H. Nicholls

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power (1) what is his general trade policy which governs the imports of lubricating oil from sources, other than the sterling area, Western Europe, and certain other non-sterling countries from which there are no quantitative restrictions on imports of lubricating oil;

(2) whether he will make a statement on the balance of payments considerations concerning the limitation of imports of lubricating oil.

Mr. Joynson-Hicks

Shortages of United Kingdom supplies of particular grades of lubricating oils are made good by imports, subject to such limitation of dollars expenditure as is required by the balance of payments position.
