HC Deb 21 February 1955 vol 537 cc115-6W
Mr. Paget

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies to state the number of cases in which the prosecution had relied upon evidence of ex-police commandant Derek Searle; how many of these cases have resulted in sentences of death; and how many men are still undergoing punishment.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd,

pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 15th December, 1954, Vol. 535, c. 140] supplied the following further information:

Derek Lawrence Searle has given evidence for the prosecution in one capital case only. In that case there was a conviction, but it was quashed on appeal. He may also have appeared in other minor cases, but this cannot be ascertained without an examination of all case files.
