HC Deb 21 February 1955 vol 537 cc106-7W
79. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how recently he has reviewed the list of disregards used for calculating non-contributory old-age pensions; and whether he will bring it into line with disregards for other pension and National Assistance purposes.

Mr. Peake

The statutory provisions relating to non-contributory pensions were reviewed in 1946, and the National Insurance Act, 1946, by limiting the period during which these pensions can be granted, clearly recognised their transitional character. In the circumstances, I am not prepared to introduce legislation modifying the rules and conditions.
