asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that the multi-lingual resolution discussed at the Singapore Legislative Assembly on 28th January was defeated by 13 votes to five; how many of the 13 were nominated members, and how many elected; and how many of the minority in favour were elected members of the Assembly.

Yes. Of the 13 members who voted against the multilingual motion, one was elected, three were nominated unofficials and nine were officials. The five members who voted for the motion were all elected. Two elected members abstained and four members were absent, including three elected and one nominated unofficial.
