HC Deb 09 February 1955 vol 536 c208W
30. Mr. Morley

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what measures he proposes to take to meet the peril of pools of thick oil now drifting from the North Sea to the southern coast of Great Britain.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I assume that the hon. Member is referring to the oil discharged by a Danish tanker which went aground on 16th January in the entrance to the River Elbe. The Coastguards have been warned to keep a lookout, and both ships and aircraft have been asked to provide information. There is no evidence so far that this oil is drifting towards the United Kingdom.
