§ 68. Mr. Sorensenasked the President of the Board of Trade what further relaxation has taken place in respect of the embargo on export goods to China and other countries; and what general expansion has taken place in respect of exports to and imports from China.
§ Mr. LowAs regards China, I have nothing to add to my answer to the hon. Gentleman on 9th November, 1954. As regards the Soviet bloc countries in Europe, I have nothing to add to the statement which my right hon. Friend made on the 26th July, 1954. As to the second part of the Question, exports to China have increased steadily from £2.7 million in 1951 to £6.8 million in 1954. Imports have also increased though the trend has been irregular; they amounted to £9 million last year.
