HC Deb 02 February 1955 vol 536 cc113-4W
86. Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many nations have ratified the South-East Asia Treaty Organisation; and what consultation has taken place, with a view to obtaining more technical and economic assistance from the West as a means of solving the problems of South-East Asia.

Mr. Turton

Siam is the only country that has actually deposited its instrument of ratification with the Government of the Philippines. But I understand that the other signatories hope to have done so before the Bangkok Conference. Consultations regarding Article III of the Treaty have taken place through diplomatic channels and will be continued at the Bangkok Conference.
