HC Deb 21 December 1955 vol 547 cc350-1W
Mr. Hale

asked the President of the Board of Trade to state the spot price per lb. at Liverpool of first quality United States cotton, based on the average for the month, in November, 1955, November, 1953, and November, 1951.

Mr. Walker-Smith

There is a wide variety of good quality United States cottons, the spot prices of which are normally quoted in Liverpool in terms of premiums on the spot price of the representative grade of United States cotton—namely, middling 15/16 inches. The average spot prices of this grade in November, 1955, November, 1953, and November, 1951, were 29.9, 31.5, and 42.0 pence per lb. respectively; the latter two prices are based on the Raw Cotton Commission's selling price for current delivery.
