HC Deb 21 December 1955 vol 547 cc325-6W
Lieut. - Colonel Bromley - Davenport

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether, in view of the fact that traffic signs with a red face are often seen with the back of the sign also coloured red, he will take the opportunity of regularising the position by revising the Traffic Signs (Size, Colour and Type) Regulations and General Directions so as to prescribe the use of a neutral colour for the backs of traffic signs, which would agree with the recommendations of the United Nations Road and Motor Transport Convention, Article 6, paragraph 3, of the Protocol on Road Signs and Signals, 1949, and Article 3, paragraph 2, of the 1952 Draft Protocol.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I will consider this point with the many others made by organisations consulted on the draft Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions.
