HC Deb 21 December 1955 vol 547 c332W
81. Mr. Swingler

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies on what date the Governor in Council in Kenya decided that import of the book "The Trial of Jomo Kenyatta" was undesirable in the public interest; and what steps were taken to notify the publishers that removal of the names of prosecution witnesses would not affect this decision.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The order banning the book was made on 20th May and published on 24th May. In reply to an inquiry dated 1st September, the Kenya Government, after careful consideration, informed the publisher that the ban would not be lifted if the names of certain prosecution witnesses were omitted from a revised edition.
