62. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what protests or representations he has received from Malayan rubber interests in respect of the loss of sale of 70,000 tons rubber by the British purchase of that amount of synthetic rubber from the United States of America.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I have received through the Government of the Federation of Malaya representations from the Rubber Producers' Council. For the reasons given in the statement by my right hon. Friend the Minister of State, Board of Trade, yesterday, I cannot accept the implications of the Question.
