HC Deb 14 December 1955 vol 547 c186W
91. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Postmaster-General whether he will consider separating radio licences from television licences so that people who do not have a radio set need not pay the full charge of £3.

Mr. Gammans

I doubt very much whether the hon. Member's suggestion would make it possible to reduce the £3 television licence fee in view of the growing needs of the T.V. service. In any case, it would involve separate licensing of sound sets and T.V. sets even in the same household, and this would seriously increase the difficulties of collecting the appropriate fees.
