§ 69. Mr. Gordon Walkerasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will take steps to prevent a repetition of the attempts made on 9th November last to segregate into separate hotels, according to their colour, the British Overseas Airways Corporation's passengers who had to spend the night in Nassau in the Bahamas.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydI am informed that normally there are satisfactory arrangements in Nassau in first-class hotels for all airways passengers, irrespective of their race. That the arrangements broke down on this occasion is a matter for great regret for B.O.A.C., the Governor of the Bahamas and myself, and I am sorry that persons concerned suffered this incident. The Governor is as anxious as myself to see colour discrimination in hotels disappear. It is, however, a matter for local public opinion, which I have reason to believe and I am glad to learn is slowly changing for the better.
