Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of the many recent problems which have arisen relating to the shortage and the migration of fish in and from Scottish waters; and if he will now give a firm date when the research ship of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, the "Sir William Hardy," which was built to investigate those and other problems, will be ready to undertake these tasks.
§ Mr. J. StuartThe state of both white fish and herring stocks in Scottish waters and the problems of conservation continually engage the attention of my Department's scientfic staff and research vessels. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research are not concerned with these matters but with the handling and preservation of fish after it is caught.
