Sea Cadet Corps (Grants)

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what grant is made from public funds towards the maintenance of the Sea Cadet Corps.

About £100,000 a year. This includes the following items:

1. (a) The headquarters and area administrations of the Sea Cadet Corps receive assistance up to maxima of £19,500 and £5,000 a year respectively.
2. (b) A training grant of 3s. per year for each qualified cadet is paid to the Sea Cadet Council.

3. (c) A capitation grant of 13s. 6d. for each qualified cadet and a proficiency grant of 5s. for boys passing for leading rate are paid direct to units.

Units also receive help from the Admiralty in kind (for example—boats, stores, uniforms) and in payment of instructional, travelling and subsistence expenses. The value of this assistance in the current financial year is roughly a further £140,000.
