HC Deb 21 April 1955 vol 540 c16W
27. Mr. Younger

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he has considered the proposals of the Herring Industry Board for new minimum prices for herring; whether he is aware of the anxiety felt by distributors of herring lest the proposed prices aggravate the present drop in consumption of herring; and what is the purpose of differentiating between herring caught by ring-net and herring caught by other nets.

Mr. H. Nicholls

The Board's proposals are under consideration. Full regard will be paid to the views of distributors together with those of other sections of the industry. I understand that in proposing differential prices the Board had in mind the different circumstances of the ring-net and drift-net fishermen.
