37. Mr. Vaughan-Morgan

asked the Minister of Health how many officials of his Department are employed in the various regional offices; and the annual cost of maintaining these offices.

Miss Hornsby-Smith

The number employed by the Department in the regional organisation in England is 86 and the cost as estimated for 1955–56, excluding services provided by other Departments, is £82,600. This is exclusive of such other services as the Medical and Dental Reference Service, Audit and the Artificial Limb and Appliance Service.
