HC Deb 04 April 1955 vol 539 c71W
61. Mr. Willis

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance if he is aware that in a recent survey made by 159 doctors of 5,086 elderly persons in Edinburgh it was found that over 200 were in need of financial assistance; and whether he will take steps to meet this hardship.

Mr. Marples

I have seen an account of this survey in the Press but I do not know on what basis the statements about financial need have been made. It is of course open to anyone in need to apply for assistance to the National Assistance Board.
