§ 138. Mr. Edward Evansasked the Minister of Education whether he is aware of the difficulties of teachers of the deaf owing to the lack of suitable printed reading books; that the National College of Teachers of the Deaf has been endeavouring to provide suitable books, in co-operation with certain publishing firms, with little success; that the main cause of this inadequacy in supply is due to restricted demand; and whether he will make a grant towards the cost of providing a graduated series of school readers suitable for all grades of deaf children.
§ Mr. VosperMy right hon. Friend has no power to make a grant towards the production of text books. One of Her Majesty's inspectors sits as an assessor to the Committee of the National College of Teachers of the Deaf, which has these problems under consideration.
