HC Deb 25 October 1954 vol 531 c243W
Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the average earnings, the proportion of unemployed, and the cost-of-living figures in Jamaica and other West Indian Colonies two years ago and at the last available date.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Records of earnings in the West Indian Colonies are not complete enough for me to obtain for the hon. and gallant Member figures of average earnings in the several territories, nor in the absence of unemployment registration can I give him the proportion of unemployed, which in any case in most places varies greatly at different seasons of the year.

For cost-of-living figures I would refer him to the Digest of Colonial Statistics.
