HC Deb 22 October 1954 vol 531 c209W
Mr. Dodds

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works, as representing the Lord President of the Council, what progress has been made in the experiments to produce a vaccine to cure the common cold; and in what form the experiments are taking place.

Mr. Bevins

Investigations by Medical Research Council workers at the Harvard Hospital, Salisbury, resulted last year in the successful cultivation of a common cold virus in tissue culture. It has not been possible to repeat cultivation on a large scale and it is not at present practicable to consider the development of vaccines.
