The Government of India informed the United Kingdom High Commissioner in Delhi early last month that imports of cotton textiles from the United Kingdom would be freely licensed, and an announcement to this effect was made in India on 11th September. The Government of India stated, however, that they could not agree to reduce the duties on these textiles at the present time.
