HC Deb 25 November 1954 vol 533 c171W
23. Mr. Beswick

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what representations he has had from the National Chamber of Trade, about the alleged unfairness of the provision in the Valuation for Rating Act, 1953, by which offices, shops and business premises are valued for rating purposes on current rental values whereas other properties are rated on 1939 values; and what steps he proposes to take to meet this grievance.

Mr. Sandys

I have received a letter from the National Chamber of Trade urging that all properties should be valued on the same basis. I am sending them a full reply, a copy of which I will forward to the hon. Member.
