HC Deb 25 November 1954 vol 533 c161W
3. Brigadier Medlicott

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will consider the desirability of founding a special prison or prisons for the treatment of prisoners convicted of offences involving homosexuality.

Major Lloyd-George

My predecessor recently appointed a Committee to consider, among other things, the treatment of persons convicted by the courts of homosexual offences. The practicability and desirability of segregating such offenders in special prisons is an aspect of the problem which will no doubt be considered by the Committee. I may add that a number of prisoners convicted of offences involving homosexuality will probably be found suitable for treatment in the special prison which it is proposed to build at Grendon Underwood, Buckinghamshire, for prisoners who are not certifiable as insane or mentally defective but need psychiatric treatment or supervision.
