HC Deb 24 November 1954 vol 533 c123W
43. Mr. Elwyn Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what facilities were available for the provision of defence counsel for the so-called Field-Marshal Kaleba and two men and a girl at their trial on charges of unlawful joint possession of a revolver and 13 rounds of ammunition, at the conclusion of which three of the accused were sentenced to death; and why none of the accused were represented by counsel.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The Kenya Government offered to assign and pay for defence counsel, but all three accused refused the offer.
