HC Deb 24 November 1954 vol 533 cc134-5W
87. Commander Donaldson

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General how many applications for telephones are outstanding in Selkirkshire; and how the figures compare with the same period in 1953.

Mr. Gammans

Thirty-eight applications are now outstanding, as compared with 69 a year ago. Nearly 200 lines have been connected in the past 12 months.

88. Commander Donaldson

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General how many applications for telephones are outstanding in Roxburghshire; and how the figures compare with the same period in 1953.

Mr. Gammans

One hundred and twenty-two applications were outstanding a year ago. 323 have been met since then, this number including new and outstanding applications. The number now outstanding is 134, including 55 in course of provision.

89. Commander Donaldson

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General if he is now able to make a statement regarding the establishment of a new telephone exchange at Cogsmill in Roxburghshire how far this scheme has progressed; and when applicants in that area may expect to have their telephones installed.

Mr. Gammans

We are about to open negotiations for a site and we hope that a new exchange will be ready to give service to applicants in the Cogsmill area in about 18 months' time.
