HC Deb 24 November 1954 vol 533 c154W
Mr. Leslie Thomas

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he will now announce his decision on the Report of the Agricultural Land Commission on land at Herne Bay and Whitstable.

Mr. Amory

The Government have given careful consideration to the Report of the Agricultural Land Commission, which will be published tomorrow, on an area of 6,000 acres at Herne Bay and Whitstable referred to them in 1950 for investigation under Section 84 of the Agriculture Act, 1947. I should like to take this opportunity of thanking the Commission for the care and thoroughness with which they carried out their task. The Commission recommended that some 870 acres of this area should be compulsorily purchased, but the Government have decided that, for financial and other reasons the acquisition of this land would not be justified.
