HC Deb 24 November 1954 vol 533 c158W
Sir D. Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the average total cost incurred in educating a child at primary and secondary schools in Sutherland from five to 16 years of age.

Mr. J. Stuart

Since costs change from year to year, any estimate of the total cost of educating a child from five to 16 years of age based on the expenditure in any given year would be misleading. But on the basis of the unaudited expenditure for 1953–54, the average annual cost of educating a child in Sutherland is estimated to be about £81. This figure covers the cost in both primary and secondary schools.
